Britain is Better than This
As part of the Gloucester History Festival, former BBC Newsnight presenter and award-winning journalist Gavin Esler joined leading political broadcaster Iain Dale to discuss how British identity has been shaped by ideas of exceptionalism, grandeur and competence. In his upcoming book titled Britain is Better than This, Esler argues that British democracy is failing with fundamental flaws in core institutions including both Westminster and the media, in an urgent and timely exploration of how the British political system has developed over the 20th century and the challenges it faces, both at home and overseas, in the 21st century.
