Christmas parties, prize ceremonies, publication days and more! Here’s what’s been happening at Midas this week:

Wolfson History Prize Ceremony

Historian Joya Chatterji has been named the winner of the Wolfson History Prize 2024 for her genre-defying history of South Asia: Shadows at Noon: The South Asian Twentieth Century.

The winner of the most prestigious history writing prize in the UK was announced at a ceremony in central London. Chatterji was awarded £50,000 and celebrated alongside the other five shortlisted authors who each took home £5,000.

Lefty Publication Day

#1 New York Times bestselling, award-winning author Mo Willems and Caldecott Medal winner and National Book Award winner Dan Santat join hands in Lefty: A Story that is Not Alright, an innovative picture book about lefties (and righties)! In this hands-on book – out 5th December from Union Square and Co. – Lefty and Righty take the stage to reveal the surprising history of left-handedness. Through a theatrical performance that spans the ages, readers discover that what was once considered wrong is now . . . all right. Mo Willems’ engaging text paired with Dan Santat’s whimsical mixed-media art bring the story to life with wit and innovation. Santat cast his own hands in the roles of the photographed hand puppets, Lefty and Righty, who speak against a changing backdrop of striking illustrated scenes populated by finger figures.
