Independent books, arts and culture communications agency, Midas, has today announced it is expanding its offering to include marketing with the appointment of experienced marketer, Stephen Dumughn as Marketing Director.

With over twenty years’ experience delivering award-winning marketing campaigns, Stephen was previously Marketing Director at Bonnier Books UK, where he oversaw marketing across all adult divisions during a period of rapid growth and expansion for the business.

Stephen will work alongside Midas’ senior leadership team, including CEO Jason Bartholomew and Deputy-MDs Georgina Moore and Amelia Knight, to expand the agency’s existing offering of PR and digital communications, to include strategic marketing services. The expanded offering will aim to provide a full, one-stop shop service to prospective and existing clients, including creative ideation, brand-building, and consumer and trade campaign planning and execution.

At Bonnier, Stephen spearheaded the launch of the company’s digital direct-to-consumer strategy, including the hugely successful Readers Club author programme and numerous genre platforms, while also leading the marketing strategy behind best-selling authors, including Stacey Halls, Heather Morris, Rory Clements, Christy Lefteri and Robert Peston, and helping drive the acquisitions of brand fiction authors Wilbur Smith and Lynda LaPlante and non-fiction bestsellers Parenting Hell and The Future We Choose.

Before joining Bonnier, Stephen held marketing positions at Little, Brown, Penguin Random House, Pan Macmillan and Orion, working on a wide array of bestselling campaigns for authors such as Donna Tartt, Ian Rankin, Andrew Marr, Margaret Atwood, Alexander McCall Smith, Sarah Waters, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cormac McCarthy and Iain Banks.

Jason Bartholomew, CEO at Midas, said: “We’re hugely excited to be launching Midas’ marketing offering with Stephen joining the team. Following the successful growth of our digital division, we’re seeing increasing demand from clients for strategic marketing support, and I couldn’t be happier that Stephen will be taking the lead on delivering this for Midas and our clients. Stephen has exceptional marketing experience, and his numerous award-winning campaigns speak for themselves. I’m looking forward to working with him as we embark on this new chapter for Midas.”

Stephen Dumughn, Marketing Director at Midas, added: Something very exciting is taking shape at Midas, and I’m thrilled to come onboard at this crucial stage in their growth. It’s been a fascinating few months since I left Bonnier and I’ve enjoyed working with publishers on a freelance basis, but I couldn’t turn down the opportunity to be part of the vibrant and creative Midas team. They’re renowned across the industry for their exemplary PR campaigns and author care, and I’m looking forward to building on that expertise to deliver best in class marketing on behalf of their clients.”

Midas’ expansion into marketing follows the significant growth of its digital division which launched in 2018, lead by Associate Director Ashley Baugh. In 2021, Midas acquired literary agency Bks.

Midas represents clients across the books, culture, arts and entertainment sectors, including Audible, BookTrust, Bookshop.org, The Reading Agency, Little, Brown, Affordable Art Fair, The London Book Fair, International Dylan Thomas Prize, the Booksellers Association, Harrogate International Festivals, and Oxford University Press, as well as authors including Julie Owen Moylen, Julia Fox, Maggie O’Farrell, Matt Adlard and Milly Bobby Brown.
