Affordable Art Fair, Battersea Spring

Affordable Art Fair has today announced the full list of galleries exhibiting at its major spring edition in Battersea Park, running from 9–12 March, with 1,000s of quality, curated artworks from leading UK and international galleries, with prices from £50–£7,500.
Affordable Art Fair, Battersea Spring will feature a celebratory exhibition of inspiring female artists to mark International Women’s Day, as well as welcoming exciting new galleries to its line-up along with many new artists making their debut at the fair. Visitors can also enjoy curated edits of top artworks under £500, a large-scale mural created live across the fair by street artist David Shillinglaw, the Art After Dark Late with activities, complimentary drinks and live DJs, top notch bars and cafés, and expert art advice on hand with the fair’s new Art Consultancy service.
The ideal destination for anyone looking to start or continue their journey collecting art, Affordable Art Fair, Battersea Spring promises to be an unforgettable experience for all.
New and International Galleries
With over 25 international galleries in attendance, the spring edition will bring together under one roof artworks from across the world, from South Africa to South Korea, Canada to Japan, and Europe including Belgium, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands and more.
New galleries making their Affordable Art Fair debut include: Maltese gallery Christine X Curated, exhibiting the work of Vince Briffa, who represented Malta at the 2019 Venice Biennale; Hamburg-based galleries Galerie Neuland and Goodwin Gallery, with a selection of stunning work in a range of mediums from abstract to sculpture, M1 Fine Art, based in a beautiful Grade II listed Victorian building in Greenwich; Gallery Millcreek from Hanam, South Korea, who will be bringing notable Korean artists including Hyunjoong Kim, Young Park, Minkyun Cho, and Taehyung Kim; Marie Jose Gallery, who specialisies in international artists and will be exhibiting for the first time works by Lebanese artists Charles Khoury and Sara Chaar, and self-taught painter and sculptor Souleymane Konate from the Ivory Coast; contemporary European gallery Pigment Gallery founded by Ferran Josa and based in Barcelona; and Brighton-based Prescription Art, specialising in vibrant, multi-disciplinary contemporary art from cult favourites Lola Dupre, Tim Fishlock and Gary Stranger.
Art in Action
Renowned mural artist David Shillinglaw (Turner Art Perspective) will be creating a live mural artwork from scratch in the atrium of the Fair, throughout the week. David has created murals all over the world, including at London’s Olympic Village and has released a number of books, including selected journal drawings and paintings in Dance of the 1000 Faces. David’s practice shifts between the street and studio using a variety of materials and mediums. His works explore human nature, success and failure, and the language people use to describe their experiences.

With affordability at its heart, Affordable Art Fair Battersea Spring will be full of artworks for any taste, space and budget. From printmaking and photography to sculpture, ceramics, collage and mixed media, there are plenty of gems to be found for savvy art buyers. To make your search even easier, look out the fair’s curated displays of best art under £500, featuring work by cyanotype artist Craig Keenan (Art Friend, whose collectors include Graham Norton), beautiful pastels by Rafael Maria (ARTCODE) and abstract prints by Marcus Aitken (Art Friend) to name a few.

International Women's Day Exhibition
A special landmark display will celebrate International Women’s Day, with artworks by international female artists exploring a range of powerful stories. Artists will include:
- Sophie Abbott (Lara Bowen Contemporary), an abstract artist with a host of notable collectors, who found solace in her art practice after the tragic loss of her mum last year
- Soozy Barker (The Barker Gallery, A1) who juggles being a highly successful artist collected by the likes of Anna Friel with raising her two young daughters and championing other women artists in her gallery
- Clare Bonnet (Gala Fine Art) who seeks to portray the truth of the female experience in her work.“I am interested in repetition in womanhood – generational cycles, entrenched societal expectations, and the dualities of female identity”
- Margaux Carpentier (Art Friend) who creates pictures using symbolic language, so each piece can be read by all, in many different ways. Her large-scale piece To The Stars Above was used as the cover illustration for the book WOMXN
- Lisa Krannichfeld (JJ Galloway Studios) whose Girls and Guises series of portraits reimagines the female muse as both passive and defiant
- Mekia Machine (Smithson Gallery), whose work investigates aesthetic and societal norms as a queer Black female artist, creating visuals she longed for representation for as a child
- Samantha Michell (ARTCODE) whose work embraces freedom and sensuality while reinterpreting the very act of painting with striking results using ink and color
- Clare Packer (star of the Battersea Spring campaign, Kittoe Contemporary) who found success in her 70s and whose classically-inspired figureheads have attracted an impressive roster of collectors, including former British Vogue Fashion Director, Lucinda Chambers
- Iryna Yermalova (Hancock Gallery), who combines her Ukrainian upbringing with a creative drive inspired by the English countryside to present bold yet sensitive figurative studies with a confident style and striking use of light and colour
The Director's Cut
Fair Director and Art Expert Hugo Barclay has revealed his top artist and gallery picks to be found at Battersea Spring, including a number of works at accessible prices that will appeal to collectors and investors alike:
- Kristina Chan, showing for the first time at Affordable Art Fair with Hancock Gallery,“Kristina Chan’s works are not to be missed. I think they will resonate with Fair visitors as they do for me. Chan’s practice explores the boundaries between individual and collective memory, and how memory affects our relationship with places.”
- Playful collages by Gráinne Nagle (Smithson Gallery) whose “charming collages take the often hard-to-define subject of abstraction and make it accessible. Through curiosity and playfulness, she creates collages and sculptures which question form and composition, with an intriguing allure.”
- Kay Gasei (Art Friend) “New to the fair, Zambian-British artist Kay Gasei’s work explores cultural themes through both mythical and historical narratives. He cites Francis Bacon and Goya among his influences, but his artistic voice feels truly unique.”
- Rogan Brown / Freddie Soethout (Gallery40NL) will have “a range of beautiful work at the Fair which is stunning in its intricacy.”
- Ana Monsó (Pigment Gallery) “Emerging artist Ana Monsó is definitely one to watch, she’s attracting a lot of buzz in her native Spain.”
- Hugo’s picks also include the abstract etchings of Gregor Hiltner (ars-tis gallery), Fine art lithographs of Japanese printmaker Chika Osaka (Hanga Ten Contemporary Japanese Prints) and atmospheric black and white etchings by Teresa Schippel Hales (North London Printmakers)
