
Midas is offering entry level placements on our highly sought after PR training programme starting in Autumn 2022.
The successful candidate will be given hands on training to learn the ropes of PR in a friendly and inclusive environment, learning from some of the best creative minds in the business. Our enviable client list, from the art, books and culture world, includes Bookshop.org, Waterstones Children’s Laureate, Audible, The London Book Fair, Books Are My Bag, Swansea University International Dylan Thomas Prize, Windham-Campbell Prizes, Wolfson History Prize, Cliveden Literature Festival and Harrogate International Festivals, as well authors such as Maggie O’Farrell, Andrea McLean, Simon Stephenson, Giles Kristian and Kate Ruby and plus publishers Pan Macmillan, Harper North, Walker, Charco Press, Oxford Children’s, Flipped Eye, Headline and Penguin Random House.
Our company offices are at the heart of the West End directly opposite the National Portrait Gallery and include an onsite gym, a private members club, the odd office dog or two, and we organise regular socials, cultural outings and get togethers.
The Midas PR training programme is aimed at helping talented individuals with an interest in books and publishing to develop public relations skills by working alongside and learning from experienced publicists on active campaigns. Training is provided on a fixed term 3 months basis and the placement is paid at a competitive rate. At the end of the placement trainees will either be offered a full term contract at Midas or supported to find a role elsewhere in the industry. People who have previously gone through the Midas training programme have gone on to work at some of the UK’s leading cultural organisations including the BBC, BAFTA, British Council, Penguin, Macmillan, Audible, Glyndebourne, Southbank, Bonnier, Imperial War Museum and so many more.

What you can expect from the training programme:
A supportive environment where you can get hands on and learn from the best
You won’t just be shadowing you will be given your own campaigns to work on
You will be out and about attending launch events, press conferences and journalist lunches
You’ll be working in the heart of London’s buzzy west end, with brilliant transport networks
You will be busy working on a huge variety of campaigns from artists to festivals
Hybrid working – most days you’ll be in the office, but some days working from home
Summer Hours – every Friday afternoon off during the summer months
What you will learn:
Working with the team, you will be taught the following skills that are key to running a PR campaign:
Understanding the media landscape and how to create stories that make the news
Researching interesting storylines and hooks to help build pitches and features for each client
Drafting both press releases and pitches to send out to journalists
Liaising directly with journalists to secure coverage – over the phone, on email and face to face
Building Media Lists and learning which journalists can make or break a PR campaign
Attending brainstorming sessions and helping to generate new and innovative ideas
Attending launch events and networking with journalists
Working as part of a team to deliver coverage and ensure the success of the campaign
Liaising on a daily basis with clients and the media, often via telephone and email
Building strong relationships and networks with colleagues, clients and the media
Learning how to build brands on social media
Collating, analysing and evaluating media coverage
Contributing to the success of a series of high profile PR campaigns at Midas

A passion for books, arts and culture
A people person who loves meeting new people and attending parties and events
Enthusiasm, creativity, and excellent writing skills
Someone who thrives in a busy environment and can cope well under pressure
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to work on more than one project at a time
A team player with a can-do attitude who is willing to give anything a go
An interest in the media and how it can be used to amplify and support authors, artists, brands etc.
