Bookshop.org has appointed Midas as its PR partner as the US-based book-buying platform continues its mission to help local bookstores compete with Amazon in a post-pandemic era.
Bookshop.org is an online bookstore with a mission to financially support local, independent bookstores. It launched in the US in January 2020 and has been a lifeline to many independent bookstores across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic, raising over $14 million for bookstores.
Midas, which specialises in communications across the arts, culture, and publishing sectors, will support the business with media relations, campaign and strategy implementation and crisis comms.
The agency is also responsible for Bookshop.org UK, which it has handled since the UK arm launched in November 2020. The accompanying PR campaign, Bookshops Fight Back, has been recognised with award nominations from CIPR, PRCA, and PR Moment.
Andy Hunter, C.E.O. of Bookshop.org said: “We’ve loved working with Midas in the UK so much that we’re taking our relationship internationally. The message that independent bookstores are essential to our culture and deserve our support has never been more urgent, and we look forward to building that support with Midas’ help.”
Jason Bartholomew, C.E.O. of Midas said: “We are elated to be working with Bookshop.org. In a short period of time, they have become a vital and much needed new entrant into the publishing industry ecosystem. Their business model and work has been rightly lauded since their inception in 2020, and Midas is thrilled to be a partner in helping them grow to the next level.”
