A new look for cultural communications agency Midas

Wednesday 23 September: Leading cultural communications agency Midas has today unveiled a bold new brand identity signifying the next phase of the 30-year-old company’s evolution.

Designed in collaboration with London-based brand consultants Lawless, the new identity signals Midas’ evolution from a public relations outfit to a full-service communications agency encompassing strategic positioning, creative media campaigns, publishing consultation, conception and delivery of events, and social media strategy and implementation.

The brand refresh marks a period of expansion and change for Midas, in particular the agency’s transition from founders Steven Williams and Tony Mulliken to CEO Jason Bartholomew who started in 2018. This is a continuation of Midas’ growth over the past ten years to include visual and performing arts clients, playwrights, actors, entertainment organisations alongside – of course –  publishers, literary agents, trade organizations, literary events, authors, and supporting all who make up the vital publishing industry.

During the global coronavirus crisis, Midas supported its clients by working together to discover new ways to bolster their reach and impact in a changing marketplace. This has included digital strategies and brand consultations as well as transitioning to virtual activities, events, campaigns, and promotion.

Recent highlights despite a Covid-impacted marketplace include: working alongside Maggie O’Farrell and Headline Publishing Group in the lead up to her recent win of the Women’s Prize for Fiction; launching The Box in Plymouth, the UK’s largest museum space to open in 2020; being nominated for the PRCA Digital & New Media Award for work on World Book Night; and developing a bespoke social media audit and digital strategy service that delivers fast results.

This rebrand points to what’s next for Midas; but clients and collaborators can continue to expect the usual ‘golden touch’ for Midas, alongside our dedication of supporting the arts sectors and a healthy dose of innovation and creativity.

In October, Midas will launch a brand-new podcast series titled The Culture Shot. Hosted by Sky News Editor Ben Monro-Davis, the podcast will provide a regular dose of what’s new and noteworthy in the world of books, theatre, dance and visual art. Upcoming guests include: Director of the Aké Festival, Lola Shoneyin; Wolfson History Prize winner, David Abulafia; judge-turned-author, Emma J Bell; and bookseller and BA President, Andy Rossiter.

Midas has also added three key hires since lockdown began: Francesca Hughes – formerly of Sydney Opera House and Somerset House – as an Associate Director focused on the arts, Rhiannon Carroll – formerly Simon & Schuster and HarperCollins – as Account Director and Gabriella Drinkald as Senior Account Executive, each with a focus on literary clients.

Jason Bartholomew, CEO of Midas PR, said: “This is an exciting moment for Midas. Midas has achieved so much as a business since it was founded 30 years ago, and this rebrand is a building block for the next 30. As a business, Midas has come together brilliantly in a time of crisis for the arts and culture sectors. At its heart, Midas is a fervent lover and supporter of all things cultural. For the coming year, and beyond, Midas will continue to find ways to support our clients through these toughest of times. This rebrand points to what’s next for Midas; but clients and collaborators can continue to expect the usual ‘golden touch’ for Midas, alongside our dedication of supporting the arts sectors and a healthy dose of innovation and creativity.”
