Midas Meets… Hannah McMillan

We’re back again with our monthly spotlight series, Midas Meets, where we sit down with different members of our brilliant team to understand what drives the bold and cutting-edge work we do and find out a bit more about the person behind the work.

Starting the year off strong, we speak to award-winning publicist and Director at Midas, Hannah McMillan. Whilst leading on many of Midas’ books, culture and arts accounts, Hannah also has many accolades under her belt, including being shortlisted at the 2022 PRCA Dare Awards for the Waterstones Children’s Laureate Cressida Cowell’s Life-changing Libraries launch campaign.

Here’s what she had to say…

Something I won’t shut up about is…

The Midas table tennis rivalry. Think McEnroe vs Borg, Williams vs Williams, Henman vs Rusedski (ahem…). It’s fierce.

Best thing about my job is…

A predictable answer I’m afraid, but the variety. Working with hugely talented authors and illustrators, the literary prizes that inspire my reading lists, as well as cultural institutions, multi-arts festivals, plus mission-led campaigns making a difference. At Midas, every project is different, but what remains the same is how much everyone – clients and colleagues – cares about what they do. It’s a pretty great thing to be part of.

I got to where I am today by…

From my first role as a Publicity Assistant at Puffin all the way through to my time at Midas, I’ve been lucky to work with some incredible and inspirational colleagues, and friends. Kind, clever, creative, funny and generous. Always on hand to offer wise advice, or for a cup of tea / post work pint. Having the support of a brilliant team makes a world of difference.

In my spare time, I like to…

Head up a hill, often accompanied – reluctantly – by my dog, Barkley. Over the next couple of months, I’m forcing friends and family up mountains in the Brecon Beacons, Scottish Highlands and to Everest Base Camp.

One thing I wish I knew at the start of my career is…

Find your own style of PR. There are many different ways of making it work.
