Each month, we’re sitting down with different members of our brilliant team to understand what drives the bold and cutting-edge work we do and find out a bit more about the person behind the work.
Off the back of her PPC Annual Awards nomination, meet the wonderful Hannah Bright, who is a Senior Account Manager. At Midas, Hannah works with Bookshop.org (in the UK and US), Cheltenham Literature Festival, Wolfson History Prize, The London Book Fair and has ran campaigns for the likes of Noor Hibbert, Lisa Taddeo, Allie Esiri, Sarah Aspinall and Jo Wimble-Groves.
Hannah has worked in the publishing and PR industries for nine years – starting out as a bookseller at Waterstones, before moving to the Waterstones Head Office as part of the Events, Festivals and PR department.
Here is what she said…
Something I won’t shut up about is…
Grey’s Anatomy –to the point where I annoy everyone I speak to. I started watching the series last year and I’m finally reaching the end. The way the writers have created enough different storylines for 18 seasons worth of TV show is truly masterful!
Although, I don’t think becoming a surgeon is on the cards for me if I ever left PR.
Best thing about my job is…
The people! I am lucky enough to work with such inspiring clients and find myself learning something new every day working with them. To me, that is what the role is all about.
I would be remiss not to give a shout-out to my colleagues. I have been at Midas for about a year and the energy and enthusiasm each member of my team has for their work is palpable, even when you’re having a catch-up over Zoom.
I got to where I am today by…
Being a bookseller. My favourite bookshop growing up was the beautiful Waterstones in Newcastle, and when I got a job there during my first year at university, I knew this was the industry for me. You could say that my time there is one of the reasons I love working with Bookshop.org both in the UK and US.
Bookshops form a vital part of the publishing ecosystem as they have the most customer-facing role and I firmly believe we should be making more of their expertise in the industry as a whole.
In my spare time, I like to…
I don’t think I could answer this question without saying ‘read’, could I?!
I also like to watch a variety of sports, including American football and F1, and even play a bit of tennis myself. I enjoy travelling and watch RuPaul’s Drag Race religiously. The list just keeps going on.
One thing I wish I knew at the start of my career is…
The old adage, ‘it’s PR not ER’, springs to mind here but I think having a work-life balance is equally as important. You do your best work when you take care of yourself so remember to make time for the things you love doing and your work will thank you for it.
