With her debut novel The Garnett Girls already making waves and set to hit UK bookshelves this month (Thursday 16 February), we spoke to Georgina Moore, Deputy Managing Director at Midas. Georgina is an award-winning book publicist who has worked in the publishing industry for twenty years. She has worked with a huge variety of authors across all genres and at all stages of their careers – from debuts to household names. She’s behind some of Midas’ biggest client wins including Maggie O’Farrell, whose campaign for Hamnet has won the FutureBook and PPC awards for campaign of the year and is Nibbies nominated.

Something I won’t shut up about is…
‘It’s PR not ER’. I think it’s important to get a sense of perspective sometimes on our jobs especially when there are deadlines and stress or things are going wrong. Luckily the team at Midas has a GSOH.
Best thing about my job is…
Working with creative minds is always stimulating and it is a privilege to be part of a team telling the world about important cultural events and helping to get books, authors, festivals, galleries and literary prizes more talked about. Also my relationship with authors I have worked with a long time and how that develops. I have looked after Maggie O’Farrell’s PR for thirteen years.
I got to where I am today by…
Investing a lot of time, effort and passion in to my career. I never treated it as ‘just a job.’ And several stages along the way I worked all the hours, and went to everything, going above and beyond. I also enjoyed every minute of it, even the adrenaline of a crisis, and I think that shines through.
In my spare time, I like to…
I read, but you’d expect me to say that! I like long family walks with our Border Terrier, Bomber. Best of all if it is a beach walk on the Isle of Wight where we have a houseboat in Bembridge harbour.
One thing I wish I knew at the start of my career is…
It gets easier dealing with difficult people the older you get!
