Trick or Treat by Lance Bass

From musical superstar Lance Bass, Trick or Treat on Scary Street was published on 17 October (Union Square & Co.). This quirky yet sinister Halloween story is perfect for those trick-or-treaters who love an extra scare! Reminiscent of Grimm’s Fairy Tales and The Nightmare Before Christmas, Trick or Treat on Scary Street brings a fresh spin to Halloween-themed picture books and is sure to catch the attention of kids who enjoy spookier stories.

DEFIANCE by Janet Alder with Dan Glazebrook

Published on 17th October, DEFIANCE recounts Janet Alder’s decades-long battle for justice; revealing the extensive cover-ups, institutional collusion, and the myriad ways in which the British state has sought to protect itself from taking accountability for her brother, Christopher Alder’s death whilst in police custody. Through meticulous research and exhaustive documentary evidence, Janet, with the help of Dan Glazebrook, presents an unflinching account of her fight against the systemic forces that continue to deny justice for her brother and countless others.

The Unwin Award

The Unwin Award this week unveiled its Judging Panel for its inaugural year! This new Award, administered by the Publishers Association, recognises non-fiction authors in the earlier stages of their careers, and whose work is considered to have made a significant contribution to the world.

Professor Shahidha Bari – an academic, critic and broadcaster – will Chair the 2025 Judging Panel, and is joined by Dr Anne-Marie Imafidon MBE, social entrepreneur, author, podcaster and speaker, alongside John Cotterill, who is Non-Fiction Buyer at Waterstones.

Stay tuned for further announcements about the shortlist announcement in February 2025!
