The Unwin Award: Call for submissions

We are thrilled to be working with The Publishers Association on the inaugural year of The Unwin Award – a new, literary award recognising non-fiction authors in the earlier stages of their careers, whose work is considered to have made a significant contribution to the world. The Award, which is supported by a donation from the Unwin Charitable Trust, is intended to champion and showcase the value of the UK publishing industry to the world.

On Wednesday, we officially opened the call for submissions – the closing date is Friday 18 October. The shortlist will be revealed in February 2025 and the winner at a ceremony in April 2025.  We will be announcing the judging panel shortly, so watch this space!

Bookshop Day Announces Initial Events & Activities

Bookshop Day revealed their first events and activities for its return on Saturday 12 October 2024. The campaign celebrates bookshops not only as valuable retail spaces on our high streets, but also as places that are committed to making a positive impact through pay it forward schemes, events that bring authors and readers together, cultivating treasured venues for the community to gather, and so much more.

From in-person author events with Glyn Maxwell, Iain Dale and Gill Sims, to potato printing workshop for children to stunning window displays and book signings, Bookshop Day has something for everyone. This Bookshop Day will also spotlight Glasgow and its wonderful bookshops with murals by Jacqueline Briggs and Jack Stamp in the city centre, the beautiful designs for which have been revealed.
