In the new book from the Sunday Times bestselling author, platinum-selling recording artist and much-loved TV & radio star, Jane McDonald talks in depth about losing her partner and reveals – with heart and humour – how surviving these dark times has helped her to live her best life.
‘Life is what you make it, nothing is for free
Stand up and be counted, and be who you want to be.’
Jane’s hit song ‘Let The Light In’ (2021) was released after her beloved partner Ed died – and it points the way to finding a new kind of joy out of sorrow. It’s a philosophy Jane lives by, and, in this new book of the same name, Jane shares the life lessons she’s learned that have helped her grow, adapt and rise up through adversity.
In Let the Light In: Lessons learned through life, love and laughter, Jane explores with candour and honesty her experiences of heartbreak and loss, failure and burn-out, while always remembering the value of friendship, the love of family, and when to laugh. She reveals the lessons that have enabled her to build resilience, taught her to trust her gut, instilled self-belief and spurred her on to achieve her goals.
Jane McDonald has an extraordinary connection with her fans – whether on TV (as one of Channel 5’s most popular presenters), on radio, on sell-out stage tours or on the page – and they have been clamoring for a new book since her last, Riding the Waves, in 2019.
The publication of Let the Light In: Lessons learned through life, love and laughter forms part of an incredible year for this national treasure – Jane will be appearing on Celebrity Gogglebox again this summer; hosting BBC Radio 2 Specials; touring the UK on a 25-date arena and theatre tour in October/November; and has a starring role in the world-famous London Palladium Pantomime in December.
About Jane McDonald: Jane McDonald was already in high demand as a performer on the club circuit and cruise ships, when BBC1’s docusoap The Cruise catapulted her to mainstream stardom in 1998. Jane went on to release a string of hit albums, with her debut achieving platinum status, and she set up her own record label in 2009.
Alongside her recording career, Jane performs live concerts across the British Isles. A celebrated presenter and broadcaster, Jane can be seen hosting Cruising With Jane McDonald, Jane & Friends and Holidaying with Jane McDonald on Channel 5, appears in Celebrity Gogglebox on Channel 4, hosts specials on BBC Radio 2. Jane hosted 2023’s The Soap Awards on ITV and is a former panelist on Loose Women. Let the Light In: Lessons learned through life, love and laughter is Jane’s third book. Jane currently lives in Wakefield with her best friend Sue and surrounded by close family.
